Maternity Action Plan (MAP)

The Quality Institute released the Maternity Action Plan (“MAP”), a holistic approach to combatting maternal mortality and morbidity. The MAP is a guide to implementing and accelerating the goals of Nurture NJ.

The MAP provides a directional path forward in four critical ways to address New Jersey’s maternal health crisis, which is particularly devastating for Black women, who experience maternal mortality and morbidity at 7 times higher rates than their white counterparts. By using the MAP and advancing Nurture NJ’s goals, together we will make New Jersey the safest and most equitable place for pregnant individuals to give birth and raise children.

NJ Recommendations for Perinatal Care During COVID-19

In April 2020, the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute, at the request of the State and several foundations brought together neonatologists, obstetricians, doulas, midwives, labor and delivery nurses, social workers, and others to create comprehensive recommendations for pregnant individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The result, Recommendations of the New Jersey Perinatal Care During COVID-19 Work Group, was distributed throughout the state to guide clinicians, families and caregivers during these unprecedented times.

Pregnancy During the COVID-19 Pandemic Resources

The Quality Institute, NJ Department of Health, and the Perinatal Care During COVID-19 Subgroup developed resources to ensure that even during a pandemic, every pregnant person in New Jersey is aware of and has access to safe and high quality care.

The resources offer information and guidance to help pregnant individuals plan and give birth safely and respectfully. They include topics on:

Questions You Should Ask Your Health Care Provider, Frequently Asked Questions, When to Call Your Doctor, Midwife, or Nurse, What to Expect from Your Health Care Team, Making Decisions with Your Health Care Team, Supplies and Resources You May Need During and After Pregnancy, and Choosing a Place to Give Birth.

Please share these with people who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant and their caregivers. The resources are available in 11 languages including Arabic, Cantonese, Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tagalog.
