Maternity Action Plan Work Session: Build the Workforce Needed to Achieve Birth Equity and Quality

Please join us for our Maternity Action Plan (MAP) work session – Build the Workforce Needed to Achieve Birth Equity and Quality, on Monday, February 13, 2023 10-12 pm. This session is for organizations and individuals interested in advancing the recommendations laid out in the MAP.

This session will be moderated by Linda Schwimmer, JD, Quality Institute President & CEO, and Kate Shamszad, MS, MPH, Quality Institute Director of Policy, and joined by subject matter experts:

  • Ellen Maughan, JD, IBCLC, lactation Consultant, New Jersey Breastfeeding Coalition
  • Jocelyn Mitchell-Williams, MD, PhD, FACOG, Senior Assoc. Dean for Medical Education, Assoc. Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University

During this session we will focus on:

  • Strategies to reform the education process to create a more diverse maternal-infant health (MIH) workforce and embed anti-racism curriculum; and
  • Supporting the sustainable growth of key MIH workforce roles, including community health workers, community doulas, lactation professionals, and midwives.

Pre-readings will be distributed to participants. This session will feature examples of where MAP recommendations and concepts are being successfully implemented and how we can collectively work together.
