The FDA recently issued a warning stating that a counterfeit version of the weight loss drug Alli being sold online can cause serious complications for its users, reports CNN. Testing shows that the counterfeit pills contain excess amounts of the drug sibutramine – at least twice as much as the recommended dosage. Ingesting too much of the drug can cause heart palpitations, insomnia, anxiety, and nausea, and can raise the risk of elevated blood pressure, heart attack and stroke in those with cardiovascular disease. The fake pills also lack Alli’s active ingredient, which prevents some of the fat users eat from being absorbed.
